The first Bar-B-Q Festival was held in 1979. It is still an annual event with over 80,000 in attendance. They come to eat barbecued mutton, pork and chicken by the tons. This event is recognized as one of the top 100 events held in the United States each year. Owensboro has become known as "The Bar-B-Q Capital of the World."
